Welcome to the official website for the UConn Capoeira Club.

(Updated for the Spring 2011 Semester)

The UConn Capoeira Club practices the Afro-Brazilian martial art of Capoeira, which incorporates fighting, dancing, acrobatics and music.  It was developed by African slaves brought to Brazil, who disguised their secretly developed fighting style as a dance to hide it from their slave masters.  Capoeira focuses on rhythm, spontaneity and flowing movements. Capoeira is completely improvised despite seeming choreographed.  The club at UConn has been active for 9 years and practices every weekday.

For those who have never come to a class before:
- It is free to practice, and their are no obligations to join our club, just
show up as much as you want/can.
- We are a lot of fun, and high energy. Expect to get in better shape and
improve your flexibility and coordination.
- You don’t need any experience. We work with a lot of beginners and will
help you learn at your own pace.
- If you aren’t sure if this is right for you, just come to class once or twice
and see what you think.
- To join our mailing list and receive up to date information, contact us via
the club email address at uconncapoeira@gmail.com.
- If you have a Facebook account, join our Facebook group (search for
“Capoeira” in the “UConn” network or click here).
